Rivers United’s CAF Champions League journey ended in a way after a surprising 2-2 tie against FC San Pedro in Uyo on Sunday.
The Pride of Rivers put on a second-half fight after being two goals behind, but the result was not enough to keep their chances in the competition alive as the Ivorian team moved on to the next round.
They had a 1-1 draw in the match in Côte d’Ivoire, and they came into the second game with confidence and the support of their home fans at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
San Pedro surprised the team by taking control of the match with two goals in the first half, leaving Rivers United with a tough challenge before the break.
The Nigerian team responded with a display after halftime, showing courage and strength as they pushed forward, looking for a way back into the game.

Their effort led to two goals that brought them back to 2-2 and gave them hope for a turnaround. The comeback created a finish as Rivers United tried to score the goal that would keep their Champions League dream going.
Even though they kept pressing, San Pedro stayed strong. Defended well to protect their lead and make it to the next stage of the competition.
This loss will be a disappointment for Rivers United, especially after their good first-leg performance and a strong start to the new NPFL season, where they beat Plateau United 2-0.
Even though their Champions League dream is over, Rivers United can be proud of the fight they showed in the half.
Unfortunately, their late effort wasn’t enough. It was San Pedro who left Uyo with a win and a spot in the next round.
