Stakeholders in Rivers State have reacted to the promise by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the State, Ogundu Kingsley Chinda, to serve Rivers with the fear of God.
The APC Governorship candidate who is a member of the House of Representatives, wrote on his X handle: “We will serve Rivers State with the fear of God and love of mankind.”
No sooner had he posted the message was welcomeed with mixed reactions poured in from various quarters.
While many congratulated him on his emergence as the APC candidate under the Rainbow Coalition, others attacked him, claiming he did not know the true meaning of “the fear of God”.
Reacting to the message, Tim Gerald said Chinda would not have emerged if the incumbent Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, had remained loyal to the power brokers.
“How I wish Sim Fubara’s second term was not thwarted by the forces that ruled the state. When you (Chinda) win, be more loyal and do your complete eight years” he said.
But Tom Steve said Rivers people were okay with O.K. Chinda, insisting that they trusted his leadership.
“My incoming governor, we trust in you and your leadership. His Excellency, Chief Nyesom Wike, never made a mistake in choosing you” he said.
Others who doubted the statement, such as Dr Chukwuere, said Chinda was a product of a godfather and would remain loyal to him.
“Sir, you can’t truly serve the people of your state when you are controlled by a godfather. The will of the people under such an atmosphere will not be respected” Dr Chukwuere said.
Another commentator asked Chinda to list the projects he intended to execute in each of the 23 local government areas in the state.
“Please, list the projects you will do in each LGA and how you will support each them especially the minority groups” he added.
