Wobodo Flags Off Igwuruta Health Centre Project in Ikwerre

The Executive Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Charles Wobodo, has thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for policies he said have increased funding available to local governments for development projects.

Wobodo made the remarks during the official flag-off of the Igwuruta Health Centre project in Ikwerre LGA.

Describing the occasion as historic, the council chairman said the project would provide residents with access to quality and affordable healthcare when completed.

He said the health centre would be completed and commissioned within three months, adding that the project was part of his administration’s efforts to fulfil its campaign promises to the people of Ikwerre.

Wobodo also highlighted some of his administration’s achievements in education and infrastructure, including the completion of a classroom block at Elele-Aluu in Ward 13, procurement of West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for residents, and provision of reading desks to schools across the LGA.

According to him, the council has also remodelled Isiokpo Market, constructed 168 table markets in Omagwa, reconstructed the Isiokpo Council Secretariat and built the Omuanwa ultra-modern town hall, which he said was 98 per cent completed.

He added that his administration had restored electricity to Isiokpo, Omagwa and Omuanwa, while the second phase of the electrification project was underway.

Wobodo assured residents of Igwuruta that the council would provide a transformer to improve power supply in the community.

On security, the chairman said the council had provided vehicles to strengthen the security architecture of the LGA, while young men and women had been empowered through various skills acquisition programmes and financial support for businesses.

He expressed optimism that his administration would fulfil all its campaign promises before the end of its tenure.

Former member representing Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Hon. Elder Chidi Wihioka, commended Wobodo for what he described as the restoration of electricity in Ikwerre LGA.

Wihioka pledged his continued support for the council chairman and commended him for providing a health centre for Igwuruta, noting that the facility was necessary because of the community’s growing population.

Earlier, the Leader of Ward 9, Igwuruta, Hon. Apostle Obinna Ikem, described the community as the heartbeat of Ikwerre LGA because of its population density.

He pledged the community’s support for the council administration.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Primary Healthcare Management Board, Dr. Chituru Adele, commended Wobodo for supporting healthcare programmes and responding to the healthcare needs of residents.

Adele described the project as a wise decision, stressing that healthcare was fundamental to the wellbeing of the people.

He urged the Igwuruta community to take ownership of the project and provide the necessary support to the contractor to ensure its timely completion.

He assured that the required equipment, qualified medical personnel, and nurses would be provided to make the health centre fully functional.
