The Osun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of 60-year-old Tajudeen Yusuf following a security breach near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
Yusuf, a resident of Oke-Ayepe, was allegedly shot by suspected hoodlums on Wednesday around 4pm in the Itaolokan area of Osogbo.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the incident occurred shortly after Governor Ademola Adeleke and his nephew, music star Davido, visited the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.
Police said a suspected thug identified as Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as “Small Rugged,” attempted to gain access to Davido but was stopped by members of the singer’s security team.

The confrontation reportedly attracted other suspected gang members, who blocked the palace entrance and temporarily disrupted the movement of the governor’s convoy before it eventually left safely.
The suspects later left the area and allegedly shot Yusuf at Itaolokan. Responding officers found him in a pool of blood and rushed him to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he was pronounced dead.
The police said efforts are underway to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police (Election), CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the killing and assured residents that the command would deploy all available resources to bring those responsible to justice.
The police urged anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station or the command through its official channels, while appealing for calm.
