Frank Edoho Explains Millionaire Show Exit

Media personality Frank Edoho has clarified that his exit from Who Wants To Be A Millionaire was not because he was sacked, but because the show’s longtime sponsor withdrew its support.

Speaking on an episode of The KK Show, published on Sunday, Edoho dismissed reports that he was dropped from the popular quiz show, describing them as false.

He recalled spending four years at Radio Nigeria, where he built his broadcasting career before transitioning to television.

“I worked for Radio Nigeria for four years. You can work on radio for years without getting the kind of fame you would get from just one month on TV,” he said.

Edoho explained that Who Wants To Be A Millionaire came to an end after its sponsor, which had supported the programme for 10 years, pulled out following a major financial penalty imposed by the Federal Government.

According to him, the company could no longer sustain the sponsorship after being required to pay a substantial amount to the government.

When plans emerged to revive the show with new sponsors, Edoho said he sought to become an executive producer and acquire a stake in the programme, believing his years of service had made him a valuable part of the brand.

However, negotiations failed due to disagreements.

He said his absence from the relaunched show led to media reports claiming he had been sacked.

“One newspaper reported that I was dropped from the show, which was false. I felt I was thrown under the bus after all the years I put in,” he said.

Edoho hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from 2004 to 2017 before resigning. The show went off air in 2017 after sponsor MTN Nigeria withdrew its support.

He later returned as host in 2022 when the programme resumed after a five-year break with new sponsors and an improved prize package.
