RWUS Backs Fubara’s Political Direction, Expands Women Empowerment Drive

Women under the aegis of Rivers Women Unite for SIM (RWUS) have renewed their call for unity, peace and collective action as essential ingredients for sustainable development in Rivers State, while reaffirming support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s political direction.

The call was made during the group’s monthly prayer meeting held on Thursday at the Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt, where women from the 23 local government areas gathered to pray for peace, stability and progress in Rivers State and Nigeria.

Addressing the gathering, Amaopuorubo Sotonye Toby Fulton urged members to remain steadfast in prayer, saying their collective prayers had continued to help avert violence and crises in the state.

She added that beyond promoting peace, the prayer meetings had also fostered spiritual growth and brought divine blessings to members through their commitment to seeking God’s intervention.

Toby Fulton also reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, stating that RWUS would continue to support the governor’s political direction.

The women further reiterated their commitment to improving their economic well-being through skills acquisition and trade enhancement programmes, describing the initiative as a significant step towards empowering women and improving livelihoods across Rivers State.

Speaking on the theme, “Praise, Purpose, Pursuit and Productivity,” Dr. Queen Karibi Botoye encouraged participants not to lose hope despite life’s challenges, stressing that difficult situations are temporary and can lead to greater opportunities.

Also speaking, Barr. Adata Bio-Briggs said the group remained committed to equipping women with practical skills that would promote self-reliance, economic prosperity and sustainable development across the state’s 23 local government areas.

She commended participants for their commitment to the skills acquisition programme held last week, which attracted more than 780 women from across Rivers State and beyond.

The meeting ended with members expressing optimism that through unity, sustained prayers and economic empowerment, women would continue to contribute significantly to peacebuilding, family development and the overall growth of Rivers State.
