‎Rivers United, Kano Pillars Bolster Squads Ahead of New NPFL Season‎

‎Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clubs Kano Pillars and Rivers United have stepped up preparations for the 2026/27 season by strengthening their squads with key signings as they target domestic success and, in Rivers United’s case, a strong campaign in the CAF Champions League.

The latest additions underline the determination of both clubs to improve their competitiveness ahead of the new season.

‎Rivers United, who finished among the league’s top sides last season to secure a place in the CAF Champions League, have completed the signing of midfielder Ugoeze Collins Chinemerem from Plateau United.

The Port Harcourt-based club also added Chikamso Amaefula from Kun Khalifat FC, with both players expected to provide greater depth and quality as the team prepares for the challenges of competing on both domestic and continental fronts.

‎The new arrivals are part of head coach Finidi George’s rebuilding efforts as Rivers United seek to reclaim the NPFL title while making a significant impact in Africa’s premier club competition.

The club believes the additions will strengthen key areas of the squad and provide the balance needed for a demanding campaign.

‎Kano Pillars have also been active in the transfer market, announcing the signings of defensive midfielder Ajibade Abiola, winger Ubong Friday and central defender Aremu Oluwasegun Matthew.

The trio are expected to reinforce the team’s midfield, attack and defence respectively as the Sai Masu Gida aim to return to title contention.

‎Ajibade, who signed a two-year contract, is regarded as a composed midfielder with strong ball-winning ability and an impressive work rate.

Former Rivers United winger Ubong Friday brings pace, creativity and attacking flair, while Aremu is expected to add stability and leadership to the backline.

‎The recruitment drive reflects the ambitions of both clubs as they prepare for what promises to be another highly competitive NPFL season.

Kano Pillars have reportedly added several new players during the transfer window in a bid to rebuild under their technical crew and restore the club’s status among Nigeria’s elite teams.

‎With pre-season activities already underway, both Rivers United and Kano Pillars are optimistic that their new recruits will integrate quickly and make an immediate impact.

Fans will be hoping the strengthened squads translate into improved performances, as Rivers United pursue league and continental honours while Kano Pillars seek to challenge for the NPFL title once again.
