‎Rivers United Confirmed The Exit of the team’s playmaker, and goalscorer

‎Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Kano Pillars have completed the signing of experienced winger Ubong Friday ahead of the 2026/27 season as the club continues to reinforce its squad for a renewed push for domestic success.

The former Rivers United player joins the Sai Masu Gida on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract, becoming one of several new arrivals at the club during the ongoing transfer window.

‎Friday arrives in Kano after an impressive spell with Rivers United, where he established himself as one of the league’s most reliable attacking players.

Known for his pace, creativity and ability to operate on either wing, the 28-year-old is expected to add experience and attacking quality to Kano Pillars’ frontline.

‎The signing forms part of Kano Pillars’ rebuilding project under new Technical Adviser Daniel Ogunmodede, who has been tasked with restoring the four-time NPFL champions to title contention.

Club officials believe Friday’s versatility and experience will strengthen the team’s attacking options as preparations for the new campaign gather momentum.

‎Friday previously featured for Akwa United before moving to Rivers United, where he became a key member of the squad.

His consistent performances over the past few seasons attracted interest from several clubs, but Kano Pillars ultimately secured his signature as they seek to assemble a competitive team capable of challenging for honours.

‎Kano Pillars have been among the busiest clubs in the transfer market, announcing multiple new signings as they prepare for what is expected to be a highly competitive NPFL season.

The recruitment drive reflects the club’s ambition to improve on recent performances and return to the summit of Nigerian football.

‎Speaking after the announcement, the club welcomed Friday and expressed confidence that he would make an immediate impact.

Supporters have also reacted positively to the signing, describing the winger as a proven performer whose experience could prove invaluable throughout the campaign.

‎Friday is expected to link up with his new teammates immediately for pre-season training as Kano Pillars continue preparations for the 2026/27 NPFL campaign.

With a strengthened squad and renewed optimism under a new technical setup, the club will be aiming to compete strongly for the league title and re-establish itself among Nigeria’s elite football clubs.
