The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Dr. Gift Worlu, has stressed that Rivers State cannot achieve meaningful development amid conflict, insisting that peace and unity remain the bedrock for realising the state’s full potential.
Dr. Worlu made the remarks on Wednesday July 22, 2026 during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Riven Medical Industry Pharmaceutical Factory in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
The Obio/Akpor Chairman while welcoming Governor Sir Siminalayi Joseph Fubara and his entourage, described the project as a major boost to the state’s industrial and healthcare sectors.
The council chairman noted that the factory would generate employment, enhance healthcare delivery, and stimulate economic growth. He appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders to rally behind the governor and ensure the project’s timely completion for the benefit of current and future generations.
“Rivers State remains one united family regardless of political differences. If we cannot make progress in peace, there is no way we can make progress in war. Unity is the only path to building the Rivers State of our dream,” Worlu said.
He announced that peace had returned to the state and urged supporters to align with the coalition without delay.
The event drew senior government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, and residents who hailed the pharmaceutical project as a landmark investment for the state.
