Three days into the second half of the year, tragedy has struck in Rivers State, with the death of a wheelbarrow pusher identified as Mr Ifeanyichukwu Udo.
Udo was killed in a tragic motor accident in the early hours of Friday, July 3, 2026, along the Ikwerre Road by Ekwe Street in the Mile 3 axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt.
While the wheelbarrow pusher was confirmed dead at the spot of the accident, another victim who was said to have narrowly escaped the accident sustained injuries.
The incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, who revealed that the driver of the commercial bus had been arrested.
Kaborlo confirmed Udo’s unfortunate demise, noting that another victim of the crash sustained injuries.
Also, the PPRO assured members of the public that the command has immediately commenced investigation into the incident. Her words: “I can confirm the accident which claimed one life along the Mile 3/Ikwerre Road axis of Diobu, Port Harcourt.
“The driver of the vehicle bas been arrested while investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, an eyewitness who chose to conceal his identify, spoke with newsmen on how the accident happened.
According to the witness, “a Mitsubishi commercial bus rammed into and crushed Udo while he was standing by the roadside at the Ikwerre Road/Ekwe Street junction.
“Another pedestrian who was also struck by the vehicle narrowly escaped death but sustained injuries.
“The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby clinic for medical attention by traffic personnel and operatives of the Nkpolu Police Division led by the Divisional Police Officer, Ogbuefi Henry King.
“The driver of the commercial bus, identified simply as Saturday, was arrested at the scene, while the vehicle was impounded and taken to the police station for further investigation.”
