Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has reacted after singer Davido referred to him as “Bingo” in a trending social media post.
The exchange began after Reno attributed the delay in his resumption in Mexico to the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. Reacting to the claim, Davido took to social media and wrote, “Umu Bingo @renoomokri fowl.”
Responding to the post, Reno first began with gratitude to Davido’s remark, describing it as a feedback to his suggestions of the singer’s patriotic outfit, but said he was surprised by the insult. He also stated that Davido is a celebrity that Nigeria is proud of, but criticized the singer’s actions as a belittling.
Sharing screenshots of Davido’s post on Instagram on Tuesday, Reno claimed the singer was upset because he had previously criticized him for wearing a customized jacket bearing the names of abducted Oyo schoolchildren while performing at the World Cup.
He further explained his reason for criticizing Davido’s action, stating that though his intentions might have been pure, it would only call give the bandits the attention and public recognition they seek, and increase their quest for ransom.
Reno Omokri lauded American streamer, iShowSpeed who he said spoke so well of Nigeria, and appeared more patriotic, as he was seen in a Nigerian jersey at the same event, implying Davido could have dressed in a simple Nigerian jersey to represent the country.
