A Nigerian political stakeholder, Agbenson Albert Adesuyi, has called for unity, humility, and collective leadership within the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), warning against the recurrence of internal crises that weakened the Labour Party ahead of future political engagements.
In an open letter addressed to former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator, Henry Seriake Dickson, Adesuyi expressed appreciation for providing the NDC platform, which he described as a rallying point for millions of Nigerians who believe in the leadership and vision of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
According to him, the growing popularity of the movement is largely driven by Obi’s message of hope, integrity, and commitment to national transformation.
The letter reads:
“Dear Senator Henry Seriake Dickson,
“I wish to sincerely appreciate you for providing the NDC platform, which today has become a rallying point for millions of Nigerians who believe in the vision, character, and leadership of Mr. Peter Obi. It is evident that this platform now carries the hopes of countless citizens yearning for a better Nigeria.
“As we celebrate this growing movement, I respectfully appeal that we do not allow the internal challenges that weakened the Labour Party to find their way into the NDC.
“One of the major lessons from the Labour Party experience is that, after Peter Obi joined and attracted unprecedented goodwill, popularity, and national support, some individuals began to mistake the source of that momentum. The overwhelming majority of Nigerians were inspired by Peter Obi’s vision, integrity, and message of hope—not merely by the political platform itself.
“This is why humility, mutual respect, and unity are indispensable at this critical moment.
“While we deeply respect your leadership and the sacrifices you have made, public statements that may suggest personal superiority or imply that others should simply be grateful for opportunities extended to them can unintentionally create divisions where unity is most needed.
“The success of this movement depends on collective leadership and a shared commitment to one goal—the rescue and rebuilding of Nigeria.
“Indeed:
– If Peter Obi succeeds, Senator Seriake Dickson succeeds.
– If Peter Obi succeeds, the NDC succeeds.
– If Peter Obi succeeds, Nigeria succeeds.
“This is not a season for ego, pride, or unnecessary internal disagreements. It is a season for building trust, strengthening relationships, and presenting a united front before Nigerians.
“I therefore appeal to Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Senator Seriake Dickson, all genuine Obidients, Kwankwasians, and indeed every member of the NDC family to remain united. Nigerians are looking to you with great expectations, and history will remember those who placed national interest above personal ambition.
“This is the time to reflect on why the 2023 elections turned out the way it did and begin to tie loose ends.
“May wisdom, humility, and patriotism continue to guide every decision.
“Most sincerely,
“Agbenson Albert Adesuyi.”
Adesuyi emphasized that the future of the coalition depends on its ability to maintain internal cohesion and avoid the divisions that affected previous political movements. He urged key political figures, supporters, and stakeholders to place national interest above personal ambition and work together toward what he described as the rescue and rebuilding of Nigeria.
The appeal comes amid ongoing discussions among opposition political actors on building stronger alliances ahead of future electoral contests.
