IGP Disu Vows Tough Action on Unregistered Vehicles

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has charged senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to adopt a more proactive, intelligence-driven, and adaptive approach in tackling the country’s evolving security challenges.

Disu gave the charge during the monthly strategic conference with top police officers held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The IGP specifically directed Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders nationwide to intensify enforcement operations against motorists operating vehicles without number plates or with concealed registration numbers.

He expressed concern over the rising trend, describing it as a serious threat to public safety and national security, and warned that the Force would no longer tolerate the illegal practice.

Addressing Deputy Inspectors-General, Assistant Inspectors-General, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers, Disu noted that Nigeria continues to grapple with multiple security threats, including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, terrorism, banditry, farmer-herder clashes, and cyber-enabled crimes.

He stressed the need for stronger leadership, seamless inter-agency coordination, and robust operational strategies to keep the Force ahead of criminal elements.

The IGP highlighted operational gains recorded since the May 2026 conference. These include the arrest of eight suspected terrorists, 55 kidnapping suspects, 65 armed robbery suspects, 29 murder suspects, and 42 suspected cultists.

Security forces also rescued 88 kidnapped victims and recovered 114 firearms, 843 rounds of ammunition, and 28 stolen vehicles across various operations.

The conference provided a platform for senior officers to review the current security landscape and fine-tune strategies for enhanced service delivery.
