The Nigeria Premier Football League team, Rivers United was involved in a car accident on Thursday evening while they were on their way to Awka, Anambra State to play against Nasarawa United in the Presidents Cup.
According to report, the accident happened at the Obiri-Ikwerre Airport Road, near Port Harcourt soon after the team left their camp, some of the Rivers United players and officials got hurt, but nobody was seriously injured or killed.
The club who told everyone what happened, said that the players and officials who got hurt are getting the medical help they need and they are all doing okay now.
Rivers United Management said “we want to let our fans and everyone know that our team was in a car accident on Thursday on the way to play Nasarawa United. The safety and health of our players and officials is our priority. Some of them sustained injuries but thankfully nobody died. They are all getting help and are in stable condition.”
The team is really thankful for all the support and prayers from their fans and the football community, and they will let everyone know what happens next with their travel plans and the Presidents Cup game.
Rivers United made it to the round of 16 by beating Rangers International 3-2 on Monday. The Pride of Rivers were supposed to play Nasarawa United on Saturday as the Presidents Cup is their chance to win something this season since they came in second in the league with 67 points just one point behind the winners, Rangers.
