Bonny Gas Transport Limited (BGT), a subsidiary of Nigeria LNG Limited, has awarded contracts for the construction of three new liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels as part of its fleet renewal programme.
The contracts were awarded to Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co. Limited and China Shipbuilding Trading Co. Limited.
According to the company, each vessel will have a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and will be equipped with advanced X-DF propulsion technology designed to improve fuel efficiency and significantly reduce emissions compared to older vessel models.
The vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2029 and will be chartered by NLNG. They will also be managed by NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited (NSML), an integrated maritime services provider.
BGT described the development as a major milestone in its fleet modernisation efforts, noting that the new vessels will comply with global and European Union emissions regulations while supporting NLNG’s target of maintaining its OGMP 2.0 Level 5 rating.
The company added that the investment will strengthen NLNG’s capacity to deliver cleaner energy globally, while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and operational excellence.
