The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s electric vehicle industry through policies designed to promote local content, innovation, and industrial development.
Speaking during a meeting with electric vehicle manufacturers and assemblers in Abuja, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, said the government is determined to position Nigerian businesses and talents at the forefront of the country’s emerging clean technology sector.
According to the minister, collaboration with relevant government agencies will be strengthened to encourage greater local participation in electric mobility, renewable energy, and technology-driven industries.
He noted that the government’s broader objective is to build an industrial ecosystem where Nigerian innovators and enterprises play a central role in driving economic growth and technological advancement.
Representatives of the Electric Vehicle Assemblers and Manufacturers Association of Nigeria also disclosed during the meeting that the association has now secured legal recognition and expanded its membership across different segments of the electric vehicle value chain.
The group expressed confidence that Nigeria possesses the resources and market potential needed to become a major electric mobility hub on the African continent.
Officials of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council stated that ongoing reforms would continue to create a more favourable environment for investment in emerging industries such as electric transportation.
They explained that the development of the electric vehicle sector could generate employment opportunities while boosting manufacturing, logistics, and energy-related businesses across the country.
Despite the optimism surrounding the sector, industry stakeholders acknowledged that challenges remain, particularly in areas such as infrastructure development and access to funding.
The meeting concluded with the election of new executives who will oversee the affairs of the association and coordinate efforts aimed at advancing Nigeria’s electric vehicle industry.
