The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has obtained a special intervention grant of N3 billion from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to establish a Centre of Excellence focused on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Cyber Sciences (ARCS).
This information was revealed by the university management in a statement released by Dr. Tosin Olagunju, the Director of Strategic Communication and Corporate Documentation.
The statement indicated that the approval was communicated through an official letter dated April 27, 2026, and signed by Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, the Executive Secretary of TETFund.
It was further explained in the statement that this intervention aims to foster advanced research and innovation in the rapidly evolving domains of artificial intelligence, robotics, and cyber sciences.
The establishment of the centre is noted as a significant achievement in the university’s ambition to emerge as a leading institution in technological innovation, digital transformation, and solution-oriented research within Nigeria.
Additionally, the university emphasized that the centre would serve as a platform for interdisciplinary research, technological advancement, capacity building, and strategic partnerships aimed at tackling both national and global challenges.
The statement also highlighted that this initiative would enhance the institution’s role in manpower development in emerging technologies and align with the Federal Government’s vision of fostering a knowledge-based economy.
Prof. Gbega Ibileye, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, expressed gratitude to TETFund for the trust placed in the institution.
He reiterated the university’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and strict compliance with the guidelines governing the execution of the intervention.
Ibileye remarked that the centre would broaden opportunities for scholars, researchers, students, and industry stakeholders to create innovative technological solutions that can positively influence society.
