Shell Nigeria Gas Company (SNG) has continued to encourage natural gas usage in companies because companies are now looking for cheaper sources of energy that can reduce their carbon footprint.
Recently, SNG held a Business and Investment Forum in Port Harcourt, where business persons, investors, policymakers, development organizations, and the energy sector came together to explore possibilities in the Nigerian natural gas sector.
Also, the event was held amidst the induction of two other industrial users of natural gas in Ogun state which were IDL and Rumbu Industries Limited.
With these two companies, the list of companies using natural gas from SNG increased to over 150 firms.
While giving a keynote speech on behalf of the Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas Company Ralph Gbobo, Head of Gas Distribution at SNG Chukwuka Amos-Ejesi explained how firms that adopt natural gas as their source of energy enjoy several benefits such as reduction in energy costs and efficient energy usage.
Infrastructure development in Rivers State was among other areas of focus for SNG during the forum with an indication of how investors can invest in gas supply, industrial use, and electricity production through natural gas utilization.
Participants in the forum showed approval for the effort with optimism that widespread adoption of gas could address the energy issues facing industries in the Niger Delta.
According to Idaere Gogo Ogan, who is the Board Chairman of Niger Delta Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Trade, Mines and Agriculture, over 500 firms have closed shop in the region in recent years owing to failure to address issues of energy.
The Board Secretary, Chief Solomon Edebiri, spoke on his behalf.SNG also signed Gas Sales and Purchase Agreements with Boskel Nigeria Limited and Bluefinn Global Resource Limited during the forum
