Nigeria’s under-20 women’s team, the Falconets have a road ahead at the 2026 FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup. After been drawn in Group F with Spain, China and New Caledonia.
The draw for the tournament happened on Thursday in Łódź, Poland. This sets the stage for the edition of the global competition, which will run from September 5 to 27.
For Nigeria this draw is another challenge, and the Falconets are still trying to win the title after years of almost succeeding on the world stage.
The seven-time African champions will start their campaign against a group with champions, Asian contenders and one of the tournament’s newest teams.
Spain presents a major threat
Among Nigeria’s opponents Spain is seen as the strongest, they’ve won the FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup title in Costa Rica in 2022, statistics shows that they are good at keeping possession have players and a strong youth system.
Nigeria will also play against China, a country with a history in women’s football, they have been to FIFA tournaments. And then the final team in the group is New Caledonia, who will be playing in the FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup for the time.
Falconets keep their World Cup record
Even with the tough draw Nigeria is still one of the most respected teams in the tournament.
The Falconets along, with the United States and Brazil are the countries to have qualified for every edition of the FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup since it started in 2002. Nigeria did best in 2010 and 2014 when they reached the final but did not win.
