Afrobeats superstar Davido has drawn reactions online after a video showed him throwing cash to a crowd during a recent visit to Osun State.
The singer was reportedly moving through the state in a convoy of luxury SUVs when the incident occurred. In the viral clip circulating online, fans were seen rushing toward one of the moving vehicles to grab the money being thrown out, creating a chaotic scene along the road.
While some people praised the act as generosity toward fans, others raised concerns about the safety risks of such acts.
Davido, who hails from Osun and is a nephew to the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, is known for attracting large crowds whenever he visits.
However, the recent display has people with differing opinions, arguing that such actions could promote disorder, particularly in a country currently grappling with economic hardship and widespread poverty.
Media personality Daniel Regha did not hold back in criticizing the singer’s actions. Taking to social media, Regha described the act as unnecessary and superficial.
“Spraying money like that doesn’t solve any problems,” Regha wrote. “A few people might go home with a couple of thousand naira, but what does that really change?”
Regha further suggested that if Davido truly intended to make a meaningful impact, the singer could invest in initiatives that benefit communities in a more sustainable way. According to him, efforts such as supporting small businesses or funding development projects would create longer-lasting change rather than what he described as a temporary display of wealth.
“It’s just for show, a way to get people to cheer louder while looking generous on camera,” Regha added.
Davido has yet to publicly respond to the criticism.
