Aviation Workers Suspend Planned Strike After NCAA Steps In

The Aviation Ground Handlers Association of Nigeria has suspended its planned nationwide strike following the intervention of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority over a lingering N9bn debt dispute.

The industrial action, which was expected to begin on Thursday, was halted after the NCAA invited the association’s leadership to a stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for May 12 at the authority’s annex office at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

In a statement signed by the association’s Chairman, Olaniyi Adigun, and Vice-Chairman, Ahmed Bashir, the group said the decision was taken to allow room for dialogue and maintain stability within the aviation industry.

According to the association, the NCAA’s involvement shows a willingness by regulators to address the concerns raised by ground handling workers and other stakeholders in the sector.

AGHAN also confirmed receiving communication from the Airline Operators of Nigeria concerning the dispute, describing it as a positive sign toward finding a lasting solution.

The association said it would participate fully in the upcoming meeting while consulting with members and relevant stakeholders to develop a common position before discussions begin.

It added that all planned industrial actions would remain suspended pending the outcome of negotiations and the creation of a clear framework for resolving the dispute.

Furthermore, the group assured passengers and industry operators of its commitment to maintaining safety, stability, and uninterrupted airport operations across the country.

AGHAN also appealed for calm, expressing confidence that the crisis could be resolved through dialogue and cooperation among all parties involved.
