Rivers Police Deny Shooting Motorcycle Rider in Khana Night Raid

Claims that a motorcycle rider was shot by a police officer who was enforcing night riding restriction has been debunked by the Rivers State Police command.

The state Police command described the assertion as untrue, insisting that the officer in charge of the area disclosed arresting some violators but denied any shooting incident.

The incident which was said to have happened in Khana local government chairman of the state was made known on social media by a youth, Mr Akanto Asogho, on Friday, April 24, 2026.

Asogho claimed that personnel attached to Bori Division in Khana LGA shot one Mr Lekue, a motorcycle rider.

According to the youth leader, “while I am against citizens flouting government order, police should apply caution when handling such a terrible situation.

“They’re dealing with human beings that are difficult to control.

“I was reliably told that the council chairman Dr. Thomas Bariere Ariar in a tripartite (council, police and Okada raiders) meeting last Saturday, admonished the Nigeria Police to be civil when carrying out directive of the council.

“Just last night, a welder who was returning from work was allegedly shot sporadically by men of the Nigerian police.”

He claimed that, “the rider who is identify as Mr. Lekue ( a welder) from Luuyor Zaakpon is under a critical situation at InnaDum hospital Bori”.

Debunking the claim, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo in an interview said “the officer in charge of the area said no motorcycle rider was shot that the Police only arrested some violators while others ran away.”
