‎Osimhen breaks all-time Nigerian record after UCL heroics‎

‎The Turkey based Super Eagles hitman, Victor Osimhen reportedly set a new Nigerian record in the UEFA Champions League after playing a decisive role in Galatasaray’s narrow victory against the English Premier League outlet— Liverpool.

‎The UEFA Champions League match summary has it that the Nigerian international provided a crucial assist in the 1–0 first-leg win, taking his tally to eight goal involvements in this season’s competition, the most ever by a Nigerian player in a single Champions League campaign.

‎The goal assist from the 27-year old Nigerian international against Liverpool took his Champions League tally this season to seven goals and one assist, giving him eight goal involvements in total.

‎According Nigerian Football statistics record, it is claimed that the milestone places him ahead of several Nigerian greats who previously held the record with six goal contributions in a single campaign.

‎Some of Nigeria’s players like Tijani Babangida, John Utaka, Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Ademola Lookman had six goal involvements in a single season. Osimhen has now beaten that record.

‎Osimhen’s great form in Europe this season shows that he is becoming a player on the continental stage. The Galatasaray star helped his team get a 1-0 win against Liverpool.

‎The match was intense with Liverpool trying to score. But Galatasaray defended well and even had chances to score more.

‎In the seventh minute Osimhen headed a corner back across the goal for Mario Lemina to score, although Osimhen later had chances to score but one was offside and another went just wide.

‎Liverpool pushed hard for an equaliser but Galatasaray held on to win 1-0. This gives them an advantage before the return match, at Anfield.
