NDDC Pledges Rapid Rural Development in Niger Delta

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has pledged to accelerate NDDC rural development Niger Delta communities. He made this commitment during his chieftaincy conferment as the ‘Pere Se Gbu Gbo’ of Ogu Kingdom, meaning “he who comes with abundance.”

The ceremony took place in Ogu, Ogu-Bolo Local Government Area, Rivers State. Dr. Ogbuku acknowledged that the honor recognized NDDC projects already executed in the community. He stressed that the commission’s days of project abandonment are over.

“We have carried out projects in the rural areas of Niger Delta,” Dr. Ogbuku stated. “We have received several honors and awards, but this one is special because it is traditional.”

He added that such accolades challenge the commission to do more. “All the accolades and awards have challenged us to do more for the people of Niger Delta. In this year 2026, we will inaugurate many completed projects,” he promised.

Senator Thompson Sekibo, Chairman of the planning committee, introduced Dr. Ogbuku. He credited the NDDC Managing Director with instrumental changes. These changes have led to rapid development across the Niger Delta region.

Senator Sekibo described Dr. Ogbuku as an accomplished administrator and development agent. He affirmed that Dr. Ogbuku was worthy of the honor, citing his achievements in education, administration, leadership, and traditional institutions.

Chief Lawrence Egbelekpepe, Chairman of the Ogu Council of Chiefs, expressed his delight. He noted the significant infrastructural facelift in the community due to NDDC efforts.

To show their appreciation, the council allocated five plots of land to Dr. Ogbuku. This land is for him to build his residential home. Chief Egbelekpepe explained that the chieftaincy title grants Dr. Ogbuku full rights as a bonafide son of Ogu.

The event also featured vibrant cultural performances. Dancing troupes and boat regattas added to the festive atmosphere.

Dr. Ogbuku’s conferment and his renewed commitment signal a stronger focus on effective project delivery. The NDDC aims to address past criticisms and foster stronger community relations. This is driven by the recognition of its tangible impact on local communities.
