Wizkid Blasts Seun Kuti

The long-standing tension between Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, and Afrobeat activist Seun Kuti reached a boiling point on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. After days of pointed criticism from the youngest son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Wizkid finally broke his characteristic silence, launching a series of blunt, shocking and unfiltered social media posts.

The feud, which has been brewing for just over a week, was initially ignited by Seun Kuti’s warnings to Wizkid’s fanbase, “Wizkid FC,” regarding their constant comparisons of the “Essence” crooner to his late father, Fela. Seun had also accused Wizkid of “stealing” his “Big Bird” nickname, challenging the pop star to be “original.” However, on Tuesday evening, Wizkid took to his Instagram and X handles to fire back for the first time since the beef started, stating, “Pu**y boy @bigbirdkuti ok I big pass your papa!!! Wetin u one do? Fool at 40!” He further contrasted Fela’s legacy with Seun’s current actions, tweeting: “Fela fight for freedom, this fool dey fight FC! Oloshi Omo ale!”

Seun Kuti, 43, was quick to respond to the 35-year-old’s insults, maintaining his stance while throwing subtle jabs at Wizkid’s stature. “Just be yourself short man. You are also great,” Seun posted on Instagram. He further goaded the singer after noticing that Wizkid had deleted some of the more aggressive posts, adding: “U go delete now, u no get mind. Who is the pussy now, beech!!!” The exchange has sparked a massive divide online, with some fans praising Wizkid’s boldness and others criticizing him for dragging the name of a global icon like Fela into a social media spat.

The controversy has also seen the involvement of third parties, as Wizkid shared a viral video of a woman delivering a heated critique of Seun Kuti in Yoruba, suggesting that Wizkid’s international success is actually what keeps the younger generation interested in Fela’s legacy. Seun had previously denied using Wizkid’s name for “clout,” citing his own 82 global shows in 2025 as proof of his relevance. Despite the harsh words, industry watchers remain focused on whether this “battle of legacies” will continue to escalate or if a reconciliation—similar to the one Seun recently had with Peter Okoye—is on the horizon.

As of today, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the hashtag #WizkidvsSeunKuti remains the number one trending topic in Nigeria, as fans from Port Harcourt to Lagos continue to debate the boundaries of respect in the Afrobeats era. For many, this clash marks the end of an era of mutual silence between the “new school” pop giants and the “old school” Afrobeat dynasty.
