Rotary Club of Nigeria has been lauded for its efforts in the development of education in the country. The Principal of Community Secondary School, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, Mr. Ikechi Orlu stated this in a charity event organized by Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Central tagged, ‘Basic Education and Literacy Project and Protecting our Environment Service Project’ held at the school premises.
The Principal of the school, Mr. Ikechi Orlu who appreciated the kind gesture, expressed gratitude to Rotary Club for finding his school worthy for such a project.
“Without those seats may be my students would have sat on the floor to write WAEC exams. We want to say thank you for Rotary. As if that was not enough they painted the and washed the school tank.
Today my students drink clean water from it. I inherited a school without a library where we are right now, it is a courtesy of Rotary, they renovated, painted, and brought the stools and books,” he stated.
Explaining the effects of the facilities, two school students, Oluchi Iziam. “For the upcoming CBT exam next year, bringing sets would greatly help the students prepare for WAEC exams,” he emphasised.
Another student Success Otobong noted that the facilities would aid the students knowledge acquisition.

“Because knowledge can be found in books, it can also be found in technology and we are sure we can leverage this to pass our external exams”, she stressed.
Earlier, the President Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Central, Mr. Ipalibo Blakk who described the donation as a way the charity organization contributes its quota to the development of education in the nation pleaded with the students to make good use of the facilities.
“We are not donating more books rather equipping the school with desktop computers, PS system, marker boards, ink and refil pens. This means both students and teachers would now have access to better tools for learning and teaching bridging the digital gap and enhancing classroom engagement.
I speak directly to the students of this school make good use of the books and computers,” he noted. The highlight of the occasion was the tree planting activity in line with the Rotary Club’s objectives to protect and make the school surroundings environmentally friendly.
