US Vows Visa Ban on Corrupt Nigerians, Unveils Tougher Policy

The United States Mission in Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption, warning that high-profile individuals found guilty of corrupt practices will be denied entry into the country.

In a post shared on Monday, the Mission stated that its anti-corruption stance would spare no one, regardless of status.

“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving U.S. visas,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, in the United Kingdom, Reform UK has announced sweeping immigration reforms it intends to introduce if it wins the next general election. Central to its plan is the abolition of Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), which currently allows migrants to apply for permanent settlement after five years, granting access to benefits and a pathway to citizenship.

Under the proposed reforms, migrants would instead be required to reapply for visas every five years under stricter conditions, including higher salary thresholds and stronger English language requirements. Reform also pledged to restrict access to welfare exclusively to British citizens, claiming the measures would save £234 billion over several decades.

Reform leader Nigel Farage defended the policy, insisting the UK “should not be the world’s food bank.” He described the proposals as a response to what the party brands the “Boriswave” — a surge of more than 3.8 million migrants admitted under looser post-Brexit rules.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves, however, dismissed Reform’s projected savings as unrealistic, noting that the government is already consulting on plans to extend the qualifying period for ILR from five to 10 years.
