The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised the new leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This recognition effectively ended a long-standing power struggle within the opposition party.
The updated information, posted on the commission’s website on Wednesday in Abuja, confirms that former Senate President, David Mark, is now the party’s recognised National Chairman.
This change comes after months of internal conflict over who holds the legitimate leadership of the party. INEC’s update acknowledged the new National Working Committee, with Mark at the helm.
The newly recognised executive members also include prominent political figures like former Osun State governor, Rauf Aregbesola, who is named as the National Secretary.

Other key appointments are Dr Mani Ahmad as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and former Edo State governor, Professor Oserheimen Aigberaodion Osunbor, as the National Legal Adviser.

Party members and stakeholders believed this development would bring stability and a clear direction to the ADC, positioning it to effectively prepare for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
Reacting to the recognition, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement posted on his X page, congratulated the party’s members.
He also commended INEC and its Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, for what he described as standing on the right side of history and for standing up for the cause of multi-party democracy.
“We congratulate ADC members and all lovers of democracy in Nigeria. We commend INEC Nigeria and its Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, for standing on the right side of history and for standing up for the cause of multi-party democracy. Arise and shine, Nigeria”, he said.
The party’s aim was to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
