Rivers: No Election in Asari-Toru Ward 1, Voters Express Discontent

Rivers State

A large number of voters in last Saturday’s Local Government Election in Rivers State have come out to say that no election was held in Asari-Toru Ward 1, because there were no result sheets in Ward 1 polling units.

The voters were seen in a recorded video chanting: No Result Sheets, No Election as they marched from polling unit to polling unit, demanding result sheets from RSIEC officials.

Speaking on behalf of the voters, Anderson George said this was the exact same method used to rig out popular candidates, including Comrade Seineri Onengiyeofori George during the 2024 LG election, which was later annulled by the Supreme Court.

“As you can see, the whole place is empty because there is no result sheet for the election, and that is why we are protesting that without the result sheet, they shouldn’t conduct the election.

“If we cast our vote without seeing the result here, then it is invalid. The rumour accusing the Accord Party Councillorship Ward 1 Candidate of leading some persons to destroy ballot materials is a lie and fake,” Anderson said.

The voters, therefore, called on RSIEC to conduct a fresh election in Asari-Toru ward I with the availability of result sheets and pleaded with the state electoral umpire to do the right thing.
