Fans Demand CAF Action Over Falcons Attacks by Moroccan Fans

Concerns have been increasingly voiced regarding the utilization of laser lights and pointers directed at players during various Confederation of African Football (CAF) competitions.

Recently, laser lights were aimed at Nigeria’s Super Falcons players during their triumph over Morocco in the final of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) that took place over the weekend.

Report recalls that the Super Falcons emerged victorious against Morocco with a score of 3-2, thereby securing their 10th WAFCON title.

However, during the match at the Stade Olympique de Rabat Stadium, laser lights were seen illuminating the faces of Super Falcons players, including Esther Okoronkwo and Michelle Alozie, which hindered their vision, particularly during penalty kicks, free kicks, and throw-ins.

The supporters of the host team utilized laser lights as a tactic to distract and unsettle their adversaries.

In light of this situation, following Nigeria’s victory over Morocco, Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu conveyed his disappointment regarding the use of laser lights by Moroccan fans targeting his players.

He also noted that he was a target of the laser lights during the match.

“The lasers weren’t directed solely at the players; they were also aimed at me. They kept pointing those lasers at me,” Madugu stated during his post-match interview.

“I question whether it is appropriate for such circumstances to persist. I do not believe it is right,” he remarked.

In the wake of the final match, numerous football fans took to their social media platforms to criticize CAF for its inaction in addressing these incidents, with some calling for stricter measures to eliminate the use of laser pointers and to promote fair play.

Others even suggested that fans should bring their laser pointers to stadiums as a form of retaliation.
