Opobo Youth President Seeks Help To Distill Drainages Against Flooding

The President of the Opobo Youth Forum OYF, Mr Moses William Pepple has appealed for working tools and equipment support from the Administrator of Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area of Rivers State, Senibo Frederick Apiafi, to enable the youths begin desilting blocked canals, drains, and gutters to avert flood.

William-Pepple, leader of OYF, a conglomeration of youth leaders from various sections, communities and War Canoe Houses of Opobo Kingdom, made this appeal while congratulating the administrator on his appointment.

He enumerated the roles of the youth group and appealed for the provision of equipment to enable the youth forum galvanize youths to clean the community and distill the drainages to avert flooding in the kingdom.

On his part, the administrator reiterated his administration’s readiness to support and partner with students and youth organisations on development-oriented projects, as long as they are feasible and impactful.

Apiafi, while hosting the leadership of the National Union of Opobo Students (NUOS), commended the students’ initiative and urged them to focus on humanitarian services rather than capital-intensive projects they might not be able to sustain.

He assured them of the council’s support for any project promoting education and youth motivation.

Apiafi urged them to, “register your youth organisation with the State Ministry of Youths, with that you can benefit from any youth related programme from the State and LGA.”

He appealed for their cooperation and partnership in maintaining a healthy environment in the area and in proffering solutions geared towards eradicating secret cult activities, illicit drug peddling, and substance abuse. “The council will support you in achieving a crime free, clean and healthy environment within Opobo/Nkoro LGA.”

Also speaking, President of NUOS, Godswill Kelefini Ogolo, said the executive council of the student body decided to pay the visit in order to familiarise themselves with the administrator and solicit sponsorship for some of the projects the union has earmarked to execute.
