Tech Skills: The Future for Niger Delta Youths – NDDC MD

Managing Director Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, DR. Samuel Ogbuku says empowering youths in technology is securing a brighter future for them. Dr. Ogbuku, who made this known during the Port Harcourt Tech Expo in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, admitted that technology has evolved with benefits.

While explaining that technology knowledge would make the youths independent and employers of labour, the MD told the youths to channel their presence on social media to make money instead of calling people out. He acknowledged that the government may not be able to employ everybody; as such, there is a need for individuals to identify their talents and use such gifts to create content that would generate income in the internet space.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Interventionist Agency, who lamented that some beneficiaries of the NDDC Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship had difficulty in understanding the use of the computer. Which limited their performance in their studies, told the people that NDDC was committed to making them self-reliant through tech exposure.

According to Dr. Ogbuku, NDDC was focusing on technology because most of the people that were empowered by the commission in the past did not make judicious use of the empowerment, as some sold their starter packs. He challenged the participants to take advantage of the Programme to improve their worth.

“Port Harcourt Tech Expo is not only for you to learn how to make use of technology, but also to benefit from it. There are several ways you can benefit from technology.
Those who know how to benefit from it are already reaping the benefits.

This is a platform that, once you are on it, you don’t need to be employed by anybody.
Government alone cannot employ all the graduates from the University. One of the facilitators, Mr. Alex Onyia, charged the youths to make intellectual investments to build themselves to be independent.

Mr. Onyia asserted that it was necessary to shift focus from oil to technology. While maintaining that technology was the future as it was needed in every sector, the tech expert insisted that there was a need to look inwards.

On his part, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, Mr. Omatsola Ogbe, represented by Supervisor, Stakeholders Management and Public Relations, Mr. Nyoki Ita, while emphasizing the importance of technology, said the body was investing in technology especially in the energy sector, for greater benefits for the country. They applauded NDDC for the initiative, believing it would have a far-reaching positive impact on the youths.
