Concern for Arsenal as Madrid Gives Hope of Signing £51m Star

Real Madrid has been given a new trust of beating the North London team to a bargain for Martin Zubimendi by the Real Sociedad’s President. According to report, Arsenal showed up to be closing in on a £51m move for the Spanish midfielder in spite of being intrigued by La Liga monsters Real Madrid.

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta is sharp to reinforce his midfield alternatives after the takeoff of Jorginho and potential exit of Thomas Partey. The Gunners started working on a negotiate for Zubimendi prior within the year and have been arranged to meet his £51m discharge clause.

A medical for the 26-year-old was indeed said to be booked in at the Emirates Stadium, with Zubimendi apparently set to end up Arsenal’s first summer signing. But Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay claims Zubimendi is however to form a choice in his future and indeed invited the Spaniard to amplify his stay at the club.

Liverpool came near to marking Zubimendi last summer but he finished up dismissing the Premier League champions in support of the remaining. Sociedad’s chief Aperribay too, implied that there were ‘several’ clubs inquisitive about Zubimendi and recommended his future would not be chosen any time before long.

‘We’ve told Martin to go to the national team calmly and to think about it,’ he told Spanish outlet ElDesmarque. ‘We’d like him to stay. ‘Clubs have asked us about him, but no player has told us they want to leave. We know there are several options.

‘Something may come to fruition or not… I don’t see it happening in the short term. We don’t see it that way, so we have to wait and see’. Real Sociedad’s new sporting director Erik Bretos added: ‘I would love for him to stay at Sociedad, and our duty is to find solutions in case he leaves.

‘He’s one of the best midfielders in the world, and I would love for him to always be at Real Sociedad.’

According to recent report, Real Madrid could look to revive their interest in Zubimendi, with new boss Xabi Alonso keen to see the midfielder arrive at the Bernabeu.

Away from the current transfer speculations on the midfielder, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is keen to welcome a new striker and winger to the Emirates Stadium this summer after Arsenal went a fifth successive season without a trophy.
