NDDC Warns Public on Fake Scholarship Scam

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has warned the public about the actions of scammers who are offering fake postgraduate scholarships to unaware individuals.

Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Director of Corporate Affairs at NDDC, made this announcement in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Sunday.

She revealed that these fraudsters have been asking for money from the public, claiming they can secure scholarship placements.

“The NDDC has been made aware of forged emails and messages sent to applicants of the commission’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme,” she stated.

Thompson-Wakama indicated that the emails, which are falsely attributed to the NDDC’s ‘Board Registry’ and sent from [email protected], invite recipients to a fake document verification and authentication process.

According to her, this supposed event is set to occur from May 19 to May 21 at Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

“Members of the public are strongly urged to note that the NDDC does not have any connection to this fraudulent selection procedure,” she emphasized.

She also clarified that all official communication regarding the commission’s scholarship program is conducted solely through the official NDDC portal: www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng

“Applicants are highly encouraged to ignore any unsolicited messages asking for money, sensitive information, or providing scholarship offers that are not in line with the NDDC’s official protocols,” she continued.

Thompson-Wakama urged anyone who encounters such fraudulent emails to report them to the relevant law enforcement authorities for prompt investigation and action.

She advised Nigerians interested in the NDDC’s programmes to exclusively use the official NDDC communication channels.

“We also recommend that former beneficiaries of the commission’s programmes and prospective applicants verify all information through the NDDC’s official website: www.nddc.gov.ng,” she concluded. (NAN)
