Speculation about Governor Fubara’s possible defection to the APC has heightened tensions in Rivers State, and if the recent comment credited to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, is to be relied on, then the political crisis in Rivers State is far from over.
A few days ago, Wike told journalists at a media parley in Abuja that he wants to see suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara completely removed from office as governor. The same FCT Minister had also vowed never to support Fubara again.
It means that if President Bola Tinubu decides to reinstate Fubara back to Government House as governor, Wike will do everything humanly possible to impeach Fubara, which is likely possible because the FCT minister is in control of the majority members of the state House of Assembly.
You recall that when Senator Adams Oshiomhole was the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, he told the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, a senator, that if he joined APC, his political sins would be forgiven.

It was also observed that after Akpabio left the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the APC, the many troubles bordering on corruption which the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission instituted against him ceased to have a biting effect.
In the case of Fubara, the decisions of the President and the Supreme Court on Rivers State appear not to favour him. It is a set of decisions that led to Fubara’s suspension and that of his elected local government chairmen.

Many are of the opinion that the President gives Wike free hands to fight Fubara, if Fubara joins the APC, will the President still allow Wike to fight him? In TPCN’s opinion, the answer is NO.
If Fubara decides to remain a non-member of APC, the political instability in the state would linger and justify the continued stay of a sole administrator in the state.
At this juncture, Fubara is left to choose whether he will join the APC and get presidential protection against the fierce fight of the FCT minister or continue to endure his ongoing political nightmare till natural justice comes to his aid.
