Rivers Govt Warns Residents against False Information

Rivers Governor

The government of Rivers State has called on the public to verify information before dissemination and to rely exclusively on official government channels for accurate updates.

This appeal was made as the state government firmly refuted false information spreading on social media, which was incorrectly attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

In a statement released on Wednesday, April 16, 2023, the government labelled this misinformation as harmful fabrications intended to mislead the public, instigate panic, and disrupt peace in Rivers State.

The statement highlighted one instance of such false announcements, which incorrectly stated that the suspended governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, had been summoned for a meeting at the Government House on Friday, April 18, 2025.

The State Government categorised the announcement as false and clarified that it did not originate from any legitimate source.

It further encouraged the public to dismiss this and similar misinformation, emphasising that they are the efforts of individuals attempting to disrupt the state’s stability.

The government affirmed that “official communications from the Rivers State Government are shared exclusively through verified channels, including the Official Rivers State Government Website: www.riversstate.gov.ng.

Authorised Government Social Media Handles and the Rivers State Government (Facebook) account are currently under review for a relaunch.

Press releases from the Office of the Governor and the Secretary to the State Government, as well as approved traditional media outlets.
