A daring daylight robbery occurred at a popular Bet Naija shop in Eleme Onne, leaving patrons and staff shaken. The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of businesses in the area.
The shop, known for its high volume of customers, was bustling with activity when the robbers struck. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with people rushing to escape the area.
According to eyewitnesses, the robbers – a girl and two boys – entered the shop dressed in casual attire, with their guns concealed. Initially, customers thought they were there to place bets, but minutes later, the girl pulled out guns and handed them to her accomplices.
The robbers then ordered everyone to lie down, collecting all the cash on hand. They also forced the shop owner to transfer N500,000 to their account. After pillaging the Bet Naija shop, the robbers proceeded to other nearby shops, committing similar robberies before fleeing the scene.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although some minor injuries were sustained. The victims were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The community is still reeling from the shock of the incident, and many are calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
“This is not the first time we’ve had a robbery in this area,” said a local resident. “We need more police presence and security cameras to deter these types of crimes.”
The incident has also raised concerns about the role of betting shops in the community. Some have argued that these shops can attract criminal activity and create social problems.
“Betting shops can be a magnet for crime,” said the community leader. “We need to consider the impact these shops have on our community and take steps to mitigate any negative effects.”
In response to the incident, the management of the Bet Naija shop has announced plans to increase security measures at the shop.
