Renowned comedian and actor AY Makun has expressed outrage over a doctored video circulating online, falsely depicting him kissing actress May Edochie.
The manipulated clip, reportedly generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI), surfaced after AY shared a video of himself and May traveling to the UK for the promotion of his latest film, The Waiter. The misleading content has since sparked controversy, drawing sharp criticism from the filmmaker.
Taking to Instagram, AY condemned the unethical use of AI to spread falsehoods and harm reputations. He questioned why young, talented Nigerians are channeling their skills toward creating misinformation instead of leveraging technology for innovation and progress.
He cited a similar case involving reality star Alex Asogwa, who was previously targeted with online falsehoods, urging youths to use their expertise in ways that uplift and unite rather than divide.
“Nigeria is rich with potential, and your unique skills—be it in art, music, technology, or entrepreneurship—can be pivotal in driving positive change. Instead of using your creativity to undermine those who are working hard to improve their lives and contribute to society, let’s focus on uplifting one another,” he wrote.
AY emphasized the damaging consequences of misinformation and the need for collective support. He called for an end to cyber sabotage, questioning why people are determined to discredit those working hard to earn an honest living.

“The other time, it was the poor @alex_unusual, who is yet to recover from the lies and narratives pushed against her simply for choosing to support a family that played a major role in her brand’s growth. Must you all chase away everyone working with me or trying to earn an honest living through me?” he asked.
Amid the controversy, both AY and May Edochie continue to navigate personal challenges—AY facing reported turbulence in his 20-year marriage to Mabel, while May remains in the spotlight due to her ongoing marital issues with actor Yul Edochie. Despite these difficulties, AY remains focused on his career, using his platform to advocate for truth, unity, and responsible digital innovation.
