Edo Arena Named After ‘Rema,’ by Governor Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has announced that the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena will be named after afrobeats sensation, Rema, in honor of his global achievements.

The governor made this declaration during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project held in Benin City on Wednesday.

Rema, who was in his hometown for a homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium, took part in the event by laying the first block of the new arena.

The governor shared the moment,, stating, “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema join me in performing the groundbreaking ceremony for the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena. The arena, which will be called ‘Rema’s Dome,’ is located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.”

Rema’s involvement in the ceremony marked an important moment in his homecoming celebrations, where he was warmly received by the people of Benin City. His arrival on Tuesday was met with excitement, as fans gathered to welcome their hometown hero.

On his X handle, Governor Obaseki stated the importance of the arena in fostering cultural exchange and economic growth: “The Rema Dome will allow visitors to experience our rich culture and what we have to offer, which will create employment opportunities for our youths.”

Governor Obaseki emphasized that upon completion, the arena will serve as a hub for various events such as concerts, national conferences, symposiums, and other large-scale gatherings.

He added that the development would enhance tourism and attract more visitors to Edo State, giving them the opportunity to explore the state’s rich cultural heritage while also creating employment opportunities for the youth.

The governor further expressed his admiration for Rema, calling him a true ambassador of both Benin and Edo State.
