⁩ Tinubu supports Nigeria’s FIFA Council re-election bid

President Bola Tinubu expressed strong support for Nigeria’s bid to be re-elected in the FIFA Council and emphasized the importance of maintaining the country’s representation in the international football governing body. This support was expressed in a statement by his spokesperson, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, who emphasized Tinubu’s commitment to promoting Nigerian sports globally.

The FIFA Council, FIFA’s critical decision-making body, consists of 37 members elected by the FIFA Congress for a four-year term. Nigeria’s current representative, Amaju Pinnick, who served two terms as president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), was elected to the council in March 2021. Pinnick follows in the footsteps of previous Nigerian members such as the late Oyo Orok Oyo. and Dr. Amos Adamu.

President Tinubu supports Pinnick’s re-election and emphasizes his administration’s focus on maintaining Nigeria’s influence in international football. The move is seen as part of a wider strategy to raise Nigeria’s sporting profile and ensure that the country continues to play a prominent role in the governance and development of football globally.

In the broader context of his administration, Tinubu has shown a proactive approach in several areas, including sports. His administration was also actively involved in other important areas such as economic reforms and international diplomacy. This comprehensive approach aims to advance Nigeria’s interests and contributions on multiple fronts and strengthen the country’s position both regionally and globally.

By supporting Pinnick, Tinubu is not only aiming to secure Nigeria’s position at FIFA but also to promote a strong sports governance legacy in line with his administration’s broader national development goals and international engagement.
