A twelve-year-old girl identified as Oluebube is currently battling for her life from a knife stab stuck in her body, which was inflicted on her by a 30 years old female neighbour identified as Abigail, at their residence in Chukwu Street, off R/D Road Rumuodara, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state.

Elder sister of the victim Miss Oluchi, while narrating the ordeal to our Correspondent, said her sister mistakenly ran into their neighbour Abigail at the compound corridor, which made the woman’s bucket of water spill.

She said: “On Friday, 16 June 2023, between the hour of 1:1am, my sister was washing plate in the compound, and my mummy went to the market to sell. Our corridor is dark; someone inside can see somebody outside, but the person outside cannot see the person inside.

“The woman went to fetch water and stood in the corridor with her water when my younger sister came in with the plates she had washed. She did not tell my sister not to carry the pot and come in to avoid running into her.

“The girl carried the pot and entered inside and jammed her. The bucket of water in the woman’s hands fell, and she, too, fell. She started beating my sister. Everybody was begging her that my sister did not know she was in the corridor.

“She told my sister that she should sweep the water before she returned from fetching another water, and my sister agreed.

“She went back to fetch another water; my sister continued to wash the plate; my sister later took a broom to sweep the water.

“As my sister took the broom to go and sweep the water out, She entered inside, carried a knife, and stabbed my sister.

“The head of the knife broke, and the blade stuck in my sister’s body. We called the Police. She ran into her room, locked her door and jumped through the fence to escape, but she was apprehended and taken to the Police station.

“My sister is currently at the hospital; they operated on her and brought out the knife that stuck inside her body. She was stabbed in her back”.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect is in Police custody while the knife has been removed from the body of the twelve-year-old girl.

SP Koko added that she is responding to treatment as the investigation continues.

In the meantime, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

The organisation’s National Coordinator, Prince Wiro, said the suspect should be arraigned in court immediately if found guilty during the investigation.

Meanwhile, the immediate past President of Rumuodara Youth Association, comrade Frank Weli, commended the Police for their swift response in apprehending the suspect.
