The damaging effect of last year’s flood is still a source of worry to the, managements, teachers and students of some schools in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A community secondary school principal in the area, Wisdom Santos Owolo whose school was also affected told our correspondent how students now sit on bare floor to learn.

He said: “During the 2022 ravaging flood, most of the classrooms in JK Boys Secondary School, JK Girls Secondary School and other community secondary schools in Ahoada West were submerged.

“All the facilities in the schools were damaged such as classroom black boards, desks, office tables, chairs, textbooks and files.

“Today, our students sit on bare floors to learn while teachers have no seats in their offices.

“We are using this medium to call on the government to visit these schools and replace the damaged facilities with new ones.”

The flood was reported to have sacked dozens of residents from their homes with some lives cut short as a result of drowning and snake bites.

While the area is yet to recover from the damaging effect of last year’s flood, the LGA has been listed among other areas that will experience flooding this year.
