Police arrest 7 suspected cultists for alleged murder in Edo

The Police in Edo have arrested seven suspects for alleged involvement in cultism and murder in the state.

The suspects identified as Okechukwu Samuel, Omoruyi Friday, Osayande Ogbomwan, Adodo Etiosa, Ogbeifun Destiny, Atohan Osazuwa, and Enohiese Nelson, were arrested when officers attached to the Aduwawa division conducted a raid on black spots at Upper Mission Extension.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Benin, said the operation, which followed cult killings, led to the arrest of the suspects in RX 330 SUV with registration number BEN 899 NC.

Nwabuzor said that during a search, one laptop and a cutlass were recovered while the suspects confessed to being members of Black Axe, who were involved in the recent cult fights.

The police spokesperson disclosed that others were arrested at Okhunmwun community by the police and vigilantes.

“Upon a search, [from] a bag belonging to Ogbomwan, two locally made pistols, and six live cartridges were recovered.”

He said Ogbomwan confessed that he and other members of the group killed one Gideon Ojeaga in Iguosa community while the suspects, presented a different story.

Speaking with journalists, Atohan Osazuwa denied being a member of any confraternity, saying they were arrested on their way home.

“They took us to the station. When they searched our bag, they found a laptop and a cutlass, which my friend is using to work on his building site. We are not cultists, and we didn’t kill anyone,” the suspect insisted.
