We will cry out our woes on Workers’ Day – Unpaid pensioners tell Wike

Unpaid pensioners in Rivers State have told Governor Nyesom Wike that they will use the forthcoming International workers’ Day celebration to cry out the woes and sufferings brought upon them by the governor.

Every Ist of May has been officially recognized as International Workers’ Day for the labour force.

The day seeks to celebrate workers’ rights and also serves as a reminder of the critical roles that trade unions and other labour organisations play in nation-building.

Revealing the plans of the state pensioners to our correspondent, the Vice Chairman of the state Contributory Pensioners, Samuel Eke said pensioners in the state have nothing to celebrate in this year’s Workers’ Day.

“We will use the forthcoming Workers’ Day to cry out our woes and pains to Wike who does not care about our existence.

“Our gratuities and pensions have not been paid, we are suffering and dying every day. How can we celebrate in hunger and misery?

“No! We will rather use the Workers’ Day to cry the more.”

When asked if pensioners will vote for Wike in 2023, the pensioners said no pensioner will vote or support the governor’s presidential ambition.

“We can not support Wike in 2023 because he has refused to carry out his statutory obligation concerning pensioners.

“The governor is busy wasting Rivers money on his presidential ambition each time he goes to other states to canvass support for his 2023 ambition, leaving us to die without pensions and gratuities,” Eke said.
