Ex-President Jonathan survives car crash

No fewer than two persons have died in the accident involving a vehicle in the convoy of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

It was gathered that the incident, which occurred on Wednesday left two others suspected to be police officers seriously injured.

It was learnt that the former president was coming from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to his residence in Abuja when the accident happened.

The accident, which occurred around the Bill Clinton Drive area, Abuja around 4:30 was said to have happened after one of the vehicles over sped and rammed into another.

Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission Corps (FRSC), Bisi Kazeem, said the former President was unhurt.

He however noted that seven cars were involved in the crash, which led to the death of two persons, while two others were at the national hospital receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, Jonathan has expressed sadness over the incident, describing it as painful and heart-wrenching.

in a statement by his Special Adviser (Media and Publicity), Ikechukwu Eze, the former President said the sudden death of the two security details had thrown him into deep mourning.

He said the deceased, Inspectors Ibrahim Abazi and Yakubu Toma, were fine officers who were dedicated to their duties and service to the nation.

He prayed God to grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and bless their families and the nation with the fortitude to bear the loss.
