Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) says the first batch of Nigerians evacuated from Ukraine has arrived in Abuja, the federal capital.

This is according to an update by the commission on its Twitter, stating that the passengers landed at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday.

The passengers, numbering about 450 from Romania, were evacuated via a Max Air flight and landed at about 7.10 am.

The evacuees, comprised of mostly students had fled Ukraine to Romania following Russia’s dispute with Ukraine.

According to the commission, they were received by government officials and are expected to undergo documentation after which they will head home and self-isolate in line with the COVID-19 protocols.
