International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Rivers State, has raised alarm over the increasing rate at which teachers, proprietors, minders, principals in the state, sexually abuse, rape and defile pupils and students under their care.

FIDA Rivers Chairperson, Adata Bio-Briggs, who disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent, said it is disheartening that perpetrators of the wicked act are supposed to be caregivers to the school children, but have however turned to fierce monsters who defile and abuse the children left in their care.

According to her, FIDA Rivers Center, has in the past few weeks received quite a number of cases to this regard, noting that the organization will no longer condone such heinous offence against children in primary and secondary schools.

She emphasized that such wicked act against school children renders the victim useless in the future, due to the emotional trauma and pain the child is made to go through.

“FIDA Rivers, as an organization saddled with the responsibility of promoting, protecting and preserving the rights, interest and wellbeing of women and children through legal framework frowns at the increasing rate of sexual molestation of pupils and students of primary and secondary schools in Rivers state by their teachers, proprietors and minders who ordinarily are supposed to be caregivers to these children while at school.

“Recently the organization received a complaint from one of the Public secondary schools about a defilement case, two months ago a head teacher from a school in Ozuoba area defiled a minor, and again another from a private school, so, it’s becoming alarming.”

Bio-Briggs reiterated that the organization will stand on its objectives and ensure that all offenders are prosecuted and brought to book.
