Gateman attempts to sell employer’s car for N350,000 in Calabar

A middle-aged man has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for attempting to sell his employer’s 3 million naira vehicle in Calabar.

The suspect, identified as Godswill Ezekiel Ugbe, was arrested by the anti-kidnapping and cultism Squad (AKCS) while driving the car to the buyer’s place around Akpabuyo Local Government Area of the state.

It was learnt that while the Dragon squad of the Police were on patrol along Atimbo Akpabuyo Road, it sighted a Toyota Camry, which they suspected was stolen.

On approaching the vehicle, the driver zoomed off towards Bakassi, prompting the squad to engage him in a hot chase, arresting him.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the command, DSP Irene Ugbo, said the suspect, whose employer lives abroad, employed him as a gateman and security guard to watch over his property, including the building and two cars.

“He is a gateman employed to safeguard a compound and some cars since the owner, his employer, lives abroad, but he decided to try selling off one of the cars.

“Unfortunately for him, men of the Anti Kidnapping and Cultism Squad, AKCS, on patrol suspected that the car was stolen and went after him; after his arrest, they discovered he was trying to sell the car for a meagre 350,000, that car is about 3 million naira. He has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court as soon as possible,” she added.
