‘Ebube-Agu has come to stay’ – Gov. Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi state has said that South-East regional security outfit, Ebube-Agu, has come to stay while urging youths to desist from crime and violence.

He said this on Wednesday, during a visit to Government Secondary School, Okposi for a novelty football match as part of the ongoing 2021 Governor David Nweze Umahi’s Annual School Sports.

“Ebube-Agu has come to stay. Ebube-Agu is backed by law which is a lawful demand by the good people of the South East and it’s very unfortunate that some people believe that everything is politics.

“If you are law-abiding and you are in the state, you will enjoy the protection of the conventional security and the Ebube-Agu Security. Ebube-Agu can arrest by the reason of the law. Ebube-Agu has the powers to arrest and send the person to the Police to prosecute.”

“Finally, let me appeal to our youths. You have no reason to go into crime; you have no reason to be brainwashed. We have made contingent provision for our youth’s empowerment. If you still engage in any form of criminality, you will regret it.

On the sit-at-home order slated to hold on the 30th and 31st of May, 2021 as ordered the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Governor Umahi said:

“The Biafra we need is this development that we are doing. Anywhere the South East people are being marginalized, we are articulating them and we are taking them to the national”.

He further expressed worry over the increase in fake news peddlers on social media about a suicide bomber in the state.

“It is an accident that happened, self-inflicted accident by a Mobile Policeman who is not a Fulani man.”

He urged people to desist from peddling unverified news, instilling unnecessary fear in people. He enjoined citizens of the state to carry on with their daily activities as there are no suicide bombers in the state.

Speaking further at Ezza Model Secondary School, Izzikworo area of the state, he tasked criminals to surrender and get empowerment or risk being prosecuted by the security agencies

“By the first week of June, those who have not surrendered, we will allow the security agencies to do their work. So I continue to insist that they should come forward to be profiled and empowered”.

The Governor added that peddlers of illegal drugs and charms were part of the problem encouraging youths from being useful.

“We need to identify those who are selling hard drugs. It is also another problem. Remove these two and our children are the best. You add these two, our children do not know who is who”.

Expressing dismay over the current killing of security personnel in the region, he said that they are not the reason behind marginalization in the region.
