The Technical Adviser of Rivers United Stanley Eguma said the team is still on course to secure a continental ticket at the end of the season.

Stanley Eguma while speaking to newsmen after his side’s two-nil victory over MFM FC in matchday 16 said the team is working hard to improve their position on the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL table.

Rivers United is currently sixth on the league table with 26 points from 15 matches.

Eguma said the team is bent on keeping the steam on securing the maximum points at home and work towards getting a better result on the road.

The gaffer described the game against MFM as a tough one, stating that the visiting side was more physical in their approach to the game.

He said the tactics the team adopted in the second half paid off for them as they scored two goals to claim the three maximum points in the encounter.

”The first half the two teams were just playing long balls and they were more physical and it was difficult for us to break them but in the second half we use more of the wings to penetrate their defence”.

“We hope to keep the steam on because we need to improve our position on the log,” he said.

Stanley Eguma, however, lauded his players for the disciplined they showed during the game.

He said such a commanding display will enable the team to soar higher in the league.

Next for the ‘Pride of Rivers’ is an away fixture against Lobi Stars of Makurdi on matchday 17 of the Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday, 21 March, 2021.

As of the time of filing this report, Lobi Stars is currently sitting on the 10 position on the log with 22 points from 15 games.
